Find out more about the UCSB Tri team and Kendra's Race by going to the UCSB Triathlon Team website.
In 2006, after the sudden death of their teammate and friend, Kendra Payne, the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) Triathlon Team renamed their annual triathlon to "Kendra’s Race." Kendra's Race has been held every year since then (except 2010 and 2021).
Each year, the UCSB triathlon team generously donates a proportion of the race entrance fees to the Kendra Chiota Payne Memorial Fund.
Due to heavy rains, the 2025 running of Kendra's Race was postponed to Sunday, February 8, 2026. The UCSB triathlon team offered a Collegiate Sprint race, an Age Group Sprint, a 5k Run, and a Triathlon Relay. Participants received a free hat, t-shirt + goodies with registration! Last year's race was officially sanctioned to include youth, and generous sponsors provided donations to all athletes and prizes for the top finishers in every category.
